The Joseph Smith Memorial Building
was built in 1911 and was formerly known as the Hotel Utah. The
building is named in honor of the first prophet of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Visitors are welcomed to tour this
magnificent building and enjoy the magnificent work of architecture,
both inside and out. While
inside, visitors are invited to view a free premier film titled
"The Testaments of One Fold and One Shepherd" in
the Legacy Theater. The film is shown Monday through Saturday at
9:00 am, 10:30 am, 12:00 pm, 1:30 pm, 3:00 pm, 4:30 pm, 6:00 pm, 7:30
pm, and 9:00 pm. Advanced reservations can be made up to three
months in advance by calling (801) 240-4383 from 9:00 am through 5:00 pm
MST.
The
Family Search Center is also located inside the Joseph Smith
Memorial Building. This center contains hundreds of millions of
genealogical records from across the world. Over 150 computer
workstations are available for public use, as well as guides, books,
microfilm and microfiche records to aid in searching for
ancestors. The Family Search Center is a great place for those who
are beginning their genealogy. Experienced researchers
should visit the Family History Library,
which contains the world's largest collection of genealogical
records. The Family Search Center is open Monday through Saturday
9:00 am to 9:00 pm, for more information call (801) 240-4085.
Located
on the 10th floor of the Building are The Roof and The Garden
restaurants, which offers both a unique dining experience and
spectacular views of Temple Square.
The Joseph Smith Memorial Building also offers various rooms available
